Travel video about destination Nara in Japan.
Nara is known as the Cradle Of Japan and was the country’s first imperial capital city until the end of the eighth century when the emperor and his State moved to Kyoto. It contains some of the country’s oldest temples, such as the Kohfukuji that was built in 669 A.D. Nara Park surrounds many sacred sites and, measuring five hundred and twenty-five hectares, is the largest of its kind in Japan. Nara is the birthplace of Japanese art and literature. Newly-imported Buddhism was sponsored by those who ruled, and extended throughout Japan. Thus, the original religion of ancient Japan, Shinto, was confined to local sanctuaries such as that of the Himuro Shrine which conserves this ancient belief. The extensive terrain is adorned by well laid-out gardens. It is the tranquility and peaceful charisma of nature which indicates that the priests of the nearby Kofukuji Temple once resided here. It was ideal for both meditation and contemplation and even today's tourism appears to be much calmer here. Wakakusa Yama Hill borders the park and is inhabited by several sika deer. From the hill, hundreds of stone lanterns accompany the path to the Kasuga-Taisha Shrine. Nara is a combination of village, park and showcase and offers a glance back to a time when Japanese Buddhism was in its infancy. Today, this place is a romantic and transformed dream destination.
