City Description:
Yokohama, a Japanese city south of Tokyo, was one of the first Japanese ports opened to foreign trade, in 1859. It contains a large Chinatown with hundreds of Chinese restaurants and shops. It’s also known for Sankei-en Garden, a botanical park containing preserved Japanese residences from different eras, and the seaside Minato Mirai district, site

Weather and Events:
Yokohama gets steady visitor traffic year-round, but the busiest periods are Mar, Golden Week (late Apr–early May), Aug and Nov–Dec. The subtropical climate can cause rainy, humid summers. Popular events are Chinese New Year (Jan/Feb), with parades and fireworks; cherry-blossom festivals (Mar–Apr) at locations like Sankei-en Garden; the Yokohama Port Festival, which celebrates the port's re-opening with concerts and ship tours; Kanagawa Shimbun Fireworks Festival (Aug); and the Great Japan Beer Festival (Sep).
